Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 2 oz silver tequila
  • 1 oz fresh lime juice (about 1 large lime)
  • 1 oz triple sec or orange liqueur
  • ice cubes
  • coarse salt for rim (optional)
  • 1 lime wheel for garnish

Method

Instructions
  1. Run a lime wedge around the rim of your glass, then dip it into coarse salt on a small plate to create the signature salty edge. Skip if you prefer without salt.
  2. Roll the lime on your counter while pressing down firmly before cutting to break down membranes and release more juice. Extract fresh lime juice.
  3. Add tequila, fresh lime juice, and triple sec to a cocktail shaker filled with ice (ice should come about halfway up the shaker).
  4. Shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds until the outside of the shaker feels frosty cold and you hear the ice dancing around inside.
  5. Strain into your prepared glass over fresh ice or serve straight up in a chilled coupe glass. Garnish with a lime wheel on the rim.

Notes

Best enjoyed immediately for optimal flavor and temperature. Can pre-mix liquid ingredients and store in refrigerator for up to 24 hours, then shake with fresh ice when ready to serve. Never use bottled lime juice - fresh is essential. Don't over-shake to avoid watery consistency. Use 100% agave tequila for best results. Can multiply recipe by 6-8 servings for pitcher version.
