Ingredients

For the Garlic Base
  • 6 slices thick slices of Italian bread or French bread
  • 4 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
For the Pizza Toppings
  • 1/2 cup pizza sauce or marinara sauce
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Your choice of toppings: pepperoni, mushrooms, bell peppers, olives

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). In a small bowl, combine the softened butter, minced garlic, Italian seasoning, and salt. Mix thoroughly until the garlic is evenly distributed and the mixture becomes fragrant.
  2. Arrange the bread slices on a large baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Spread the garlic butter mixture evenly across each slice, making sure to cover the entire surface right to the edges. Bake for 5-6 minutes until the edges are lightly golden and you can hear gentle sizzling from the butter.
  3. Remove the toasted bread from the oven and let it cool for about 30 seconds. Spread approximately 1 tablespoon of pizza sauce on each slice, leaving a small border around the edges to prevent overflow.
  4. Sprinkle the mozzarella cheese evenly over each sauced slice, then add a light dusting of Parmesan cheese. Add your chosen toppings, pressing them gently into the cheese to ensure they stay in place during baking.
  5. Return the assembled garlic toast pizzas to the oven for 6-8 minutes, or until the cheese is fully melted and bubbly with golden spots appearing on top. Remove when the cheese is perfectly melted and the toppings are heated through.

Notes

Mix the garlic butter ahead of time and store it in the refrigerator for up to three days for quicker assembly. Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 2 days and reheat in a toaster oven at 350°F for 3-4 minutes to restore crispiness. Avoid microwaving as this will make the bread soggy. Can freeze assembled but unbaked pizzas for up to 1 month.
