Ingredients

  • 1 bottle white wine (750ml, Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc)
  • 3 large white peaches, sliced
  • 1/4 cup peach schnapps
  • 2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup
  • 1 cup sparkling water
  • 1/2 cup fresh berries (strawberries or raspberries)
  • fresh mint leaves
  • ice cubes

Method

  1. Wash and slice your white peaches into thin wedges, leaving the skin on for extra flavor and color. Add the berries whole.
  2. In a large pitcher, combine the chilled white wine and peach schnapps. Stir in the honey until completely dissolved. Taste and adjust sweetness as needed.
  3. Gently fold in the sliced peaches, berries, and a handful of fresh mint leaves. Press the fruit lightly with a wooden spoon to release some juices, but don't muddle aggressively.
  4. Cover your pitcher and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, though overnight is even better, to allow all flavors to meld together.
  5. Just before serving, add the sparkling water for fizz. Fill glasses with ice, ladle in the sangria with plenty of fruit, and garnish with fresh mint sprigs.

Notes

The beauty of sangria lies in its patience - chill for at least 2 hours or overnight for best flavor. Don't skip the chilling time as rushed sangria lacks deep fruit flavors. Avoid over-muddling fruit which can make the drink cloudy and bitter. Add sparkling water just before serving to maintain fizz. Keeps in refrigerator for up to 3 days, best within 24 hours. Store without sparkling water and add fresh bubbles when serving leftovers. Can be made alcohol-free by replacing wine with white grape juice.
